Family name : Begoniaceae
The begonia name comes from Michel Begon and he was an official of Louis XIV's government in Santa Domingo and later governor of Canada. He recommended the Minimus monk Charles Plumier to the King. Plumier named the begonia after him. Begonia become important starting the 19th century, when South America became a rich source of new plants.
